Obituary for Matthew 'Matt' Alan North
It is with a breaking heart that, my son, Matthew “Matt” Alan North, 25, died on February 11, 2014. . He was preceded in death by his father Jay North and Aunt Sharon Jeffords. He leaves behind his heartbroken mother, Anni North; girlfriend, Taylor Montoya; beloved Mema Dorene Buchan (Don); Uncles, Les (Linda), Bill (Pat), Chuck (Roberta), Gary (Robin); Aunt Gail; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Matthew, the son of a baseball player, was born on May 23, 1988 in St. Petersburg, FL. At the age of 4 the family moved to Vacaville when his father became a baseball scout for the St. Louis Cardinals. Matthew played his first 2 years at Will C. Wood, before transferring to Deer Valley High for his junior and senior seasons. In 2006, Matthew was a 9th round selection of the Major League Baseball draft. The St. Louis Cardinals made him the 286th pick in the draft. He played in the Cardinals organization from 2006-2010, before a career ending injury halted his professional playing days. He received Appalachian League Pitcher of the week, in 2008 and played under the coaching of current St. Louis Cardinal’s pitching Coach, Derek Lilliquist. Matt earned All-Bay Valley Athletic League honors at Deer Valley, while being selected as a Puma Pre-Season All American. He followed in his Father’s footsteps working with local athletes and teaching them about the fundamentals of pitching and baseball. He was the Pitching Coach at Diablo Valley College in for the 2012/2013 season and then became the Pitching Coach at Solano College for the 2013/2014 season. A memorial service will be held Monday February 17, 2014 at 11am at McCune Garden Chapel. Interment will be private.
