Obituary for Charles Charlie Joseph Peters
Long time Dixon resident, Charles Peters, passed away at his home on Monday, Feb. 21, at his home of natural causes. Charlie was born May 19, 1923 in Spokane, Wash. and moved to Dixon in 1929 where he attended Dixon schools, met and married, Fern, his wife of 55 years and raised his family. Charles served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII, where he participated in the Pacific Island invasions. Following the service, Charlie joined his father in the family painting business. He would later retire after 30 years as a State employee working at the Dixon May Fair. Charles was a 50 plus year member of the I.O.O.F, a lifetime member of the Degree of Pocahontas, as well as the Improved Order of Redmen and an active member of the VFW. Charles is survived by his sister, Lois Brown, son Leroy Peters (Cindy), daughters Sandra Cole (Larry), Nancy Ward (David), Terri Morrison (Cleave), six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Fern, parents J.C. and Thelma and sister Charlotte. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon. Burial at Silveyville Cemetery.
