Obituary for William Franklin 'Papa Lee' McClelland
Papa Lee went home to the Lord quietly in his sleep after a short battle with esophageal cancer. He was a wonderful man with a heart as big the sky. He never met a stranger, never turned his back on a friend. He has been a crossing guard and a volunteer for many years. He has played Santa for schools, daycares, and friends. He touched the lives of everyone he met in some way. He was always there with a smile and a wave. His caring nature made him an indispensable part of our lives. His love of life was an inspiration to many. He served in the Navy for many years, even taking part in the A-bomb testing. He worked for the State of California for 25 years. He retired in 1991 and moved to Vacaville in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his wife Minnie in 1998.
He is survived by his son Bill and daughter-in-law Maggie, Granddaughters Penny, Beverly, and Mary, and 10 great-grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life pot luck party on January 8 at 1 pm at Andrews park in Vacaville. Anyone who wishes to attend is invited. Papa Lee asked to be remembered with smiles and laughter, not tears and sorrow. There will be a private ceremony at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, which will be his final resting place.
