Bill Jacks' life was defined by his love for family, friends, community, and golf. Born December 14, 1950 in Long Beach, Bill frequently mentioned how lucky he was to have had Keith and Mary Jacks as parents. Bill was predeceased by his older sister Lola and younger brother Roy. Growing up Bill especially looked out for Roy and they remained close all their lives. Bill married Julie (Turnsk) Jacks in 1986 and they enjoyed 37 years together.
Spending time with friends was a priority with Bill. Whether hosting parties, organizing golf outings or planning class reunions, Bill loved bringing people together. Over the years, he established and maintained many friendships throughout the community.
Bill loved Vacaville. His family arrived in 1957 and he never left. He attended Vacaville schools starting in first grade and graduated from Vaca High in 1969, where he was a member of the school's championship wrestling team. In the years since, Bill has been a dedicated member of the reunion committee for the class of 1969. After graduating from Sacramento State in 1973, Bill became a teacher for the Vacaville Unified School District. He spent most of his career at Elm School, moving to
Hemlock when Elm closed. He retired in 2010. In addition to teaching, Bill supported the community in a variety of ways. He served on the board for the Stan Foster Memorial Golf Tournament and was also a lifelong participant. He was treasurer of the Vacaville Teachers Association for 12 years. For many years, Bill drove the Vasquez family float in the Fiesta Days parade.
Bill was always happy when golfing with friends. In addition to playing most courses within a day's drive of Vacaville, he took many golf trips, including the Northern California Coast, Lake Tahoe, Monterey Peninsula, Palm Springs and Mesquite, Nevada. He even got in 3 rounds during a trip to Ireland. Beginning in 1984, Bill organized and hosted his own golf tournament, the Mayberry. For 40 years the Mayberry was an annual highlight, not only for the golf, but also the steak dinner at Bill's afterwards.
Bill is survived by his wife Julie Jacks. Bill and Julie wish to extend their appreciation to the community of Vacaville and the many friends who have supported them through the years, especially Ron Humphrey, who was an invaluable help over the final few months. A celebration of Bill's life will be determined at a later date. A final request is that men get their PSA levels checked early and often. Bill was loved and will be missed!
