Obituary for William "Bill" Alekner
William (Bill) Alekner Resident of Vacaville, CA March 20, 1932- May 28, 2020
William (Bill) Alekner passed away on Thursday May 28, 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer. He touched many lives with his gentle spirit and positive outlook on life. Bill was born and raised in Decatur, Illinois. He joined the Navy Dec. 13, 1950 and served 4 years during the Korean War Conflict. Bill began a 30-year career as a Field Engineer with Pacific Bell, retiring in 1985. Bill enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, bowling, playing cards with his buddies, Fantasy football, and sports card collecting. Bill is survived by his loving wife Barbara, 5 stepchildren, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Lucille (Chuck) Pinkston of Decatur, Illinois and niece Marsha Harrington of WI, nephew Mike & family, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia, daughter Cheryl, and parents Peter and Thurma Alekner. Bill will be interred at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd. Dixon, CA 95620 at a later date.
