Ward Dean BonserJune 25, 1924 - Sept. 11, 2009

Ward Dean Bonser, 85, of Vacaville passed away peacefully Sept. 11.
Born June 25, 1924 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to parent's Robert and Edith Bonser. Ward was the second eldest of 10 children. Ward served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was involved in the pacific campaign. After Ward's discharge from the military in 1949, Ward returned to Iowa where he proceeded to work in the construction field. In 1952, Ward married the love of his life, Mary, and they raised a family of four children. In 1966, Ward moved his family to Fairfield, Calif., where he owned and operated a gas station and small motel. Here is where he would raise his children. For many years he worked in a family owned auto dismantler business until his retirement.
Ward and Mary moved to Vacaville in 1976 and would live there until his untimely death.
Ward and Mary led a simple life staying at home never venturing too far away and enjoying their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ward and Mary enjoyed simple trips to Reno and Cache Creek and Ward never had a day go by without purchasing a few Lotto tickets.
Ward was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Edith, his sisters Myrtle and Wanda and most recently his wife of 56 years, Mary.
Ward is survived by his children Timothy Bonser, Darlene Gillihan, Dolores Bolduc and Clark Bonser. He also leaves behind seven brothers and sisters, Robert, Jerry, Joe, Helen, Judy, Patti and Edee, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel, www.Mccunechapel.com, 212 Main St. Vacaville, 448-6546. A funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. The family asks that all donations be made to the "Make a Wish Foundation." We would like to express a special thanks to the Barajas family who are always there to lend a helping hand.
