Obituary for Walter John Meitrott
Walter John Meitrott, age 80, of Dixon, California, peacefully entered his final rest at his home on Sunday, November 29, 2009.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he moved to California in 1968, and ultimately settled in Dixon, the town he so loved, in 1975. The son of the late Walter George Meitrott and Martha Wall Meitrott, he was raised in the Salvation Army where, using his musical talent, he played trombone in the Salvation Army Band. In 1951 he joined the Marine Corps and served his country during the Korean War. At the end of his enlistment, he continued to serve his country in the Marine Corps Reserves, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, before being honorably discharged in 1966.

He attended the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Accounting, and had a successful career as a representative for various automotive manufacturers. After retiring from the automotive business, he began his second career as the attendance coordinator for Dixon High School. He loved the students and faculty and found great joy in serving both until illness forced his final retirement.
Throughout his life, his great loves were God, country, and family. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Meitrott (Aiello), Sandy Meitrott (Tyler), Kristine Nixon, and his son, Jeff Meitrott, sons-in-law, Nick Aiello, Ray Tyler, and daughter-in-law, Daisy Meitrott, grandchildren, Kraig Jacobs, Ryan Nixon, Cody Meitrott, and Morgan Meitrott. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Glenda Meitrott (Lindsey), his wife of 21 years, Joyce Koppes (Bailey), and his sister Ethel Jean Gilmore.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2009, at the Milton Carpenter Funeral Home, 569 N. First Street, Dixon, Ca. Immediately following, the interment service will be held at 1:00 p.m., at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, Ca. His family invites all who shared our love for this wonderful man to join with us as we celebrate his life.
