Obituary for Vera Cleo Bailey
Vera was born on March 11, 1924 in West Plains, MO. After graduating from West Plains High School, she married Walter Bailey on May 19, 1941. In 1942 they moved to California. Vera worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Hoytt Enterprises for 25 years. She was a member of Mission Bell Chapter #205, Order of Easter Star. She loved playing Bunco with a group of dear friends in Vacaville for many years. Vera also loved to play Rummy & Pitch, travel, and go camping with her family and friends. Vera was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain. Her home was always filled with love and laughter. The great-grandchildren called her “Swimming Pool Grandma.” We will miss her every day. We thank her for her love, support, and friendship. She enriched our lives with her positive attitude. We will treasure all the wonderful memories she brought to our lives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bailey; son, Larry Bailey; grandson, Aaron Carpenter; sister, Lorene Barrett; brother, Charles Hopkins; parents, Elza and Clara Hopkins, and brother-in-law Frank Stringfellow. Vera is survived by: sister Vivian Stringfellow; brother Edward Hopkins (Jewell); sister-in-law Erciel Hopkins; also beloved nieces and nephews; daughter Linda Gettman (Tom) of Vacaville, son Ronald Bailey (Sally) of Fairfield; two grandsons Phillip Bailey (Megan) and Tim Gettman; five grand-daughters: Rhonda Bailey, Marni Kraus (Joseph), Lacey Buell (Stephen), Rebecca Nieswender (Cameron), and Tammy Gochenouer (Eric); fifteen great-grandchildren: Cameron, Joseph, Jacob, Jordan, Bailey, Rachel, Marissa, Summer, Devin, Erica, Takoda, Elizabeth, Gavin, Ryan, and Dylan. A visitation will be held at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main Street, Vacaville, CA on Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 2 pm to 5 pm. After your visitation, you are invited to stop by the home of Linda and Tom Gettman. A burial service will be held April 17th at 2PM at Howell County Memorial Park Cemetery, West Plains, MO. Services will be officiated by Reverend Edward Hopkins of Hope of Glory Church, West Plains, MO.
