Obituary for Tom H. Newsom
Tom H. Newsom, a resident of Vacaville, died suddenly at his home on June 10, 2012. He was 64 years old. Tom was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 28, 1947. He moved to Vacaville when he was 12 years old. Tom was an avid athlete and excelled at any sport he undertook. He played football, basketball and baseball at Vacaville High. He attended BYU on a football scholarship after high school and later transferred to Boise State where he played football and received his bachelor degree. He later received a master’s degree from St Mary’s College. Tom was golf pro at Green Tree Golf Course during the 70’s. Golf was his passion later in his life. At the time of his death, he was a principal in the Travis Unified School District where he had worked for the past 30 years. He was devoted to his job and his students. The loves of Tom’s life were his daughter Stacy and his 3 grandchildren. He would drop anything he was doing to make sure he could attend their sports and school activities, and made sure they could get wherever they needed to go. He was always there for them. He was happiest when he was with his family, at school with his students, or on the golf course. His father and mother, Henry and Ann Newsom, preceded Tom in death. He is survived by his daughter Stacy Newsom, his adored grandchildren, Madison, Zachary and Lola, his sisters, Linda and Darlene Newsom, nephews Mikey, Paul, Johnny, and Henry, nieces Kari, Anna and Alex. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, please support your local sport programs in Tom’s memory. A memorial mass for Tom will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Avenue, Vacaville, on Friday June 15th at 10 a.m with a reception to follow at The Opera House on Main St.
