Obituary for Thomas "Tom" Joseph Softa Sr.

Thomas Joseph Softa Sr. (Tom) passed away on January 14, 2024 he was 87 years old. He was born on March 2nd, 1936 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. 


 He was survived by his loving and devoted wife Norma Jean, his children MaryJane (Juan), Thomas Jr., Michael (Elaine); Grandchildren Stefanie (Zack), Christopher, Michael (Jessica), Dominic (Cayden), Jill Cuellar and Great grandchildren Ella and Zoey.


Tom lived in Uniontown, PA on his grandfathers Dairy Farm until he joined the Air Force at the age of 17. He served in the military for 25 years being stationed in Hawaii, California, Japan, Maryland, Delaware and Taiwan. When he was stationed in Maryland he had the privilege of being in the presidential squadron during the John F. Kennedy administration. In 1964 he became a Flight Engineer on the C141 and C130. He retired in 1976 after 25 years. He went on to work for Anhueser Busch Brewery as a Lab Technician for another 25 years.


He met the love of his life in September of 1955 in Honolulu, Hawaii they were married on March 28th, 1956. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 67 plus years. He was a romantic at heart always bringing her flowers and gifts. They returned to Honolulu almost yearly in their retirement.


Some of his favorite pastimes were Boating, Fishing, Golfing and Hunting. He also loved his gambling trips to Reno, Laughlin, and Lake Tahoe and most recently to Cache Creek. He was also an avid Lotto Player never missing a week.


He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was known as Grandpa, Poppa, Grampy and Happy.

Visitation will be held at: McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville on Tuesday 1/30 from 5pm – 8pm and Funeral Service on Wednesday 1/31 at 9am . Burial immediately after at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon. Reception after at 191 Salinas Dr., Vacaville until 3pm.
