Obituary for Taltha Cathern Propst Leatherman
Taltha died after a brief illness surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 6, at North Bay Hospital in Fairfield, Calif. Taltha was born July 31, 1922 in Henry, North Carolina to Blanche and Samuel Propst. She married Homer Lee Leatherman in 1940 and had one daughter, Linda Gail. They made their home in Hickory, N.C., until 1950 when they moved to Richmond, Calif. Where they resided until retirement and moved to Clearlake Highland, Clearlake, Calif., in 1982. After retirement they traveled in their motor home. They made many trips across the United States and especially to North Carolina. Taltha remained in Clear Lake after Homer’s death in 1998; then relocated to Vacaville, Calif., to be near her daughter and eventually lived with her until her illness and death. She was a homemaker when she living in Richmond and also worked at Mary Ellen’s Jams and Jellies and Rawson’s Drugs in Oakland, Calif. She was preceeded in death by her husband Homer, her parents, Blanch and Samuel; three brothers, Floyd, Howard and Jake Propst; one sister, Hazel Rhodes. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Showalter and friend, Jerry Longmire; granddaughter, Teresa and husband Peter Irvin; great granddaughter, Leah Irwin from Bredbo, Australia; granddaughter, Tammy and husband David Cruze; greatgrandsons, Nick, Davis and Clay Cruze of Oakley, Calif.; great granddaughter, Amy and husband Adam Ellison; great great granddaughters, Emelie and Isla of Atworth, Georgia; great granddaughter, Becky and husband Rhys Belnap; great great granddaughter, Kirra; and great great grandson, Hunter of Queenbeyan, Australia. Arrangements will be handled by McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville. Viewing is between 5 and 8 p.m., Thursday, May 10. She will be buried along side her beloved husband, Homer on Friday, May 11, in Clearlake at Lower Lake Cemetery at 11 a.m.
