Obituary for Susan "Kathy" Kathleen Bergman (Lucas)
Susan “Kathy” Kathleen Bergman (Lucas) was born on July 27th 1947 in San Diego, California, to Dennis and Fern Lucas. She met Steven Bergman in 1964 while attending Grossmont High School and they were married June 10th, 1967. She started college but dropped out to support putting Steve through school. Her first child, Erik Michael, was born in 1971 followed by her two daughters, Heather Suzanne and Jennifer Nicole. After staying home with her children for many years she decided to go back to college and follow her dreams of being a teacher. She balanced motherhood, commuting 2 hours to school each day, and graduated with straight A’s. She went on to teach for over 30 years at Fairmont Elementary School, where she ended her career as an administrator. Kathy was known for her incredible work ethic and integrity. She loved her students and had a passion for children, especially those who may not have equal opportunities. She loved her community of Vacaville and spent hours volunteering and supporting issues around homelessness and poverty. She was a daughter, wife, mom, friend, Brownie leader, Bobby Sox coach, teacher, administrator, and community volunteer. But her favorite title was Noni. Nothing made her smile bigger than her 7 grandchildren, Erik Bergman Jr., Madison Moss, Marc Moss II., Noah Bergman, Micah Bergman, Oliver Manning and Asher Manning, and her only great grandchild Evan Bergman. Kathy fought a long battle with Alzheimers and taught us all that even when you lose your memory you still have the capacity to give and to love. During the most difficult times, when she seemed like she had no recognition, her family would enter the room and she would light up and blow kisses and smile. Kathy passed away on March 21, 2020 and was preceded in death by both of her parents and her son. Due to Covid-19 the family had a very small graveside service. Once travel is resumed, the family will honor her with a Memorial Service.
