Obituary for Susan Bulkley Ash
Susan Ann Bulkley Ash was born Nov. 30, 1940. She went to be with her Lord on Oct. 25, 2013. She was born in Sacramento and grew up on the family ranch nine miles east of Dixon. She attended Dixon schools and Sacramento City College in Sacramento. As a girl, she was active in Girl Scouts and Rainbow Girls, winning the Grand Cross of Colors. She excelled in tennis and was a member of the Girls Athletic League in high school as well as playing the piano. She was employed by UC Davis before marrying and starting her family, which included one daughter and two sons. In later life, she ran her own day-care business for 35 years. Later, she became a licensed Activity Director for a convalescent facility. She was a calligrapher and shared her talent with the whole community. She was a charter member of the Dixon Moose Lodge and also the Dixon branch of Toastmasters International, achieving the rank of Distinguished Toastmaster. She belonged to the Dixon Historical Society and was a third generation member of the Tremont Mite Society. Sue was a caring, giving person who never forgot anyone¹s birthday or an important date. She was one who not only saw needs in the world but did something about them. The world is a better place because she walked here. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Ash; children Joanne Johnson Pillay, Kary Johnson Bulkley, and Gary Johnson; stepchildren Pam, Dennyice, Martha and Maggie; grandchildren Ronald Jackson and Robert Jackson; brother Ralph Bulkley; and sister Sally Hoover Asbra. May she rest in God¹s eternal peace. Memorial services will be held on Friday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. at Dixon United Methodist Church.
