Obituary for Steve Papin
Longtime Vacaville farmer and rancher, Steve Papin (age 96) peacefully passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Wednesday August 30, 2017. Born September 18, 1920 to Alex and Mary Papin, Steve came from a family of 11 children. Steve was involved in agriculture and livestock all of his life, growing a business that just about everyone in the family became a part of; harvesting tomatoes, sugarbeets, sunflowers, alfalfa, wheat, dry beans and corn as well as raising cattle and sheep. During the 1950’s, he began a trucking business hauling farming commodities. Even up through 90 years of age, Steve continued to be involved in his love of farming with his family. He attended Vacaville High School, was a certified welder at Mare Island during WWII, a volunteer firefighter for Elmira Fire Department and a member of the Solano County Farm Bureau. Steve’s greatest joy outside of farming was his family. He is survived by his wife of 70 wonderful years of marriage, Dee; one brother, Mike; two children, Stephen (Darline) and Jan (Jeff); two grandchildren, Jamie (Mike) and Zephyr (Chris), and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, John, Nick, Fred, Sam and Bill as well as his four sisters, Vera, Hazel, Alice and Ann and son-in-law, Randy. Steve led a life of dignity, respect, pride and devotion to his family, work and community. Despite the calluses on his hands and sun weathered skin from decades of hard work, nothing ever kept him from keeping his shirts crisp and properly tucked in. He is greatly loved and he will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be sent to Victory Christian Life Church, P.O Box 165 Elmira, Ca 95625.
