Obituary for Shelly Kay Spencer
Shelly Kay Spencer passed peacefully on January 2, 2017 after a brief illness. Shelly was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 23, 1964, the daughter of Gerald W. and Marian E. Korpela. She graduated in 1982 from Elk River High School in Elk River, Minnesota. After high school, she attended Anoka Technical College where she received her certificate in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising.

Shelly eventually moved to California and worked for Kaiser Permanente for 20 years. As a member of the Kaiser staff, she worked in hospital administration, then became an executive assistant, a project manager, and for the past several years held the position of Quality Specialist.

While living in Fairfield, California, Shelly met Greg Spencer. That friendship blossomed in time, and in 1999 they started dating and in June of 2002, Shelly and Greg became husband and wife. A few months after their wedding, on October 8, 2002, Shelly and Greg made another big decision and, together, they purchased their first Harley-Davidson, a 1999 FXDWG which they began enjoying together riding throughout California. They met, and created, many lasting friendships together during all their memorable rides.

Shelly was an avid quilter, an extraordinary gourmet cook, and along with the Harley-Davidson, she also enjoyed yachting and the friendships developed there. Shelly was an accomplished artist and enjoyed making home décor items. Shelly was truly a wine aficionado and quite often, you would find Shelly and Greg at many local wineries and music events where they would enjoy sipping delightful whites and reds while appreciating local musicians playing their favorite songs.

Shelly is survived by her husband, Greg Spencer, her daughter Lindsay Aubart, her sister Wendy Eichmann (Scott), her brother Randy Korpela (Lori), her mother Marian Korpela, many cousins, and nieces Alyssa and Amanda Korpela. Shelly was preceded in death by her father Gerald Korpela.
