On Saturday, January 7, 2023, Ronald Paul Konkle, 91, passed away. He was preceded in death in 2021 by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Arlene (Kiikka) Konkle and survived by his children and their spouses, Terrence and Tina Konkle of Gilroy, CA, Heather and Tim McGinnis of Charlotte, NC, Lorna and Jon Gardner of Newville, PA, Timothy and Shirley Konkle of Round Rock, TX; his grandchildren, Josiah, Parker, Remi McGinnis, Madeline (McGinnis) Snyder and Victoria (McGinnis) Alamina, Nika and Lilya Gardner, Nicholas and Nina Konkle: and great grandchildren, Jameson Snyder and Skylar McGinnis.
Ron was born at home on January 9, 1932, the middle child of late Paul P. Konkle and Margaret E. (Powell) Konkle of Sycamore, OH. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Ruth Ann (Konkle) Weininger in 2021. His younger brother, James Konkle, resides in Sycamore, OH.
Ron graduated from Sycamore High School as the salutatorian of the Class of 1950 where he was very involved in basketball, track and baseball. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1954 with an accounting degree and as an alumnus of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. Following college, he began work at an accounting firm, but went on to join the Navy and attend Officer Candidate School, graduating in 1956 and then flight training in Pensacola, FL learning to fly planes. Next, he went to Corpus Christie, TX for advanced training and on to CA for Air Intelligence School. He served on the USS Hornet and the USS Bennington. Following this time of service, he went back to the accounting firm where he previously worked until the tug of moving to CA took him, his wife and son to the state.
Ron worked in the accounting field and had many opportunities until he opened his own company in 1980. He was well liked by his clients and ran the business for 40 years until 2019. He remained active in the accounting world and until the end of his life was still completing the necessary hours to maintain his CPA license. Ron’s hobbies included playing bingo, doing puzzles, building models and socializing. If asked what made him happy, his answer would always be people.
