Obituary for Ronald Baxter Hentschel
Ronald Baxter Hentschel passed with peace and grace at the age of 92 on July 30, 2017. Born in 1925 to Raymond and Gladys Hentschel, Ron would often reminisce of the good times growing up on the family’s farm in Minnesota. Ron’s family withstood the Great Depression and those years impressed upon him the principles of hard work and rainy-day savings. As a result, he took many odd jobs as soon as he was old enough -from working in a window blind factory to delivering wedding cakes. As a young man, Ron attended UCLA, then enlisted in the Army Air Corps to earn his wings and become a pilot. He loved his country and served with honor until discharged as Lieutenant 1946. Later, as a young married man with a growing family, and growing expenses, Ron leveraged his love of flying to earn additional income by flying his beloved F-86 Sabrejets with the Air National Guard Reserves. He married Lois Arlyne in 1945 and together they had 3 daughters, Carolyn, Linda, and Christine. Ron spent the majority of his working years at Bank of America. On occasion, he would tell the story of how he was asked to sweep the floors on his first day of work as a bank teller with B of A, but would go on to retire 4 decades later as a Vice President and Regional Manager for the San Bernardino area. His life truly embodied the American Dream. Ron was preceded in death by his wife Lois Arlyne, and grandson Matt Murdock. He is survived by his daughters Carolyn Murdock, Linda Stephens and Christine Jessup; granddaughters Nancie Wakefield, Rachel Armstrong, Lindsey Little and Carrie Little; great granddaughter Emily Wakefield; great grandsons Noah Armstrong, Aaron Armstrong and Joshua Armstrong; sons-in law, Robin E. Murdock, Michael Stephens, and Greg Jessup; grandsons-in–law Adrian Wakefield and Rodney Armstrong. Ron loved Snoopy as the World War 1 Flying Ace and his family will forever remember him as our own “flying ace” of the family.
