Obituary for Robert "Bob" Paylor
It comes with great sadness that the Paylor family announce the passing of a husband, father, grandfather, and friend Robert “Bob” Paylor. Bob was born in Seattle Washington on January 21, 1935 and was a 50s kid during the best years of our Nation. Bob grew up playing sports and graduated from Ballard High School in 1953. After high school, Bob spent the next three years serving in the United States Marine Corps. Bob was a communications specialist serving in Korea, Japan, and ultimately made his way finishing his duty at the Marine Corps Station at Kaneohe Bay on Oahu. After an honorable discharge, Bob returned to Seattle to attend the University of Washington completing a business degree in marketing. Bob was a natural salesman and spent 40 years with the Bemis Company and was known as the “The Rice King” retiring in 1998. After his career with Bemis, Bob founded The Rice Choice working with many of his business colleagues in the rice industry which were some of his best friends. After moving to Davis California in 1973, Bob spent his time as a Coach for Davis Little League and Head Coach for the Davis Youth Football Team. Bob also volunteered and was on the Board of Directors at Stonegate Country Club and Progress Ranch, a residential home for homeless boys. Bob loved sports and played tennis and basketball when he wasn’t coaching or cheering on his children and grandchildren. After retirement, Bob and Charlene, who was the love of his life and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage embarked on their love of sailing, a family cabin, and travels. They were surrounded by the beautiful family they created that included daughter Lori Carpenter (Scott) and grandchildren Lyndsay and Bradley of Davis, son Jeff (Debbie) and grandchildren Robert and Brant of El Dorado Hills. While we are beyond heartbroken at the loss of an amazing man, Bob was a true person of faith and has returned home. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Church on Friday, Nov. 8th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Progress Ranch Boys Home at 2725 Loyola Drive, Davis, Ca 95618.
