Richard Hales
Resident of Vacaville
June 10, 1932-July 4, 2023
Richard Hales passed away at home unexpectedly. As a long time educator in Vacaville, he touched many lives.
Richard was born in Grass Valley CA, graduated from Grass Valley High School and got a BA in music from San Francisco State University.
Richard moved to Vacaville in the late 50s and started teaching for the Vacaville Unified School District. For most of his teaching career he taught at Willis Jepson (Music, and Math). It was at Jepson he met his future wife, Nancy. After he and his wife Nancy retired, they enjoyed traveling and cruising which they were able to do until the last few years. In addition, with their son Greg, for several years, went up every fourth of July to visit family in Oregon, and made countless trips to Nevada City to visit his sister Mary and her family.
After his retirement Richard also served on the board of many local arts originations in the area, including the Solano Symphony Orchestra, which he was still involved with at the time of his passing.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Nancy, his son Greg, daughters Liza (Matt), Susan (Thomas), grandchildren Jeremy (Maryanne), Erika, and great-grandchildren Lauren and Kaitlyn. His kindness and loving spirit will be missed by all who know him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, July 18th, at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville from 4-7pm and the funeral service on Wednesday July 19th at 10:00am at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Ave, Vacaville. Burial to follow at Vacaville/Elmira Cemetery.
