Obituary for Richard Dean Thorson
Richard D. Thorson, of Vacaville, CA., died April 2, 2014 in Vacaville following a long battle with cancer. A native of Culbertson, MT., he was born January 6, 1941. In 1968, he moved to Vacaville upon graduating from the University of Montana - Missoula, School of Pharmacy. In Vacaville, he worked at Vacaville Drug and Glenbrook Pharmacy prior to transferring to Napa to work for Merrill's and Safeway Pharmacies. He prided himself in knowing all of his customers and their families by name. A trait instilled in him by his father who owned several businesses. Richard was a long time member of Vacaville Moose and was a charter member of the Vacaville Elks. He valued his family and many friends. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, sailing and gardening. Richard is survived by his wife of 38 years, Neva of Vacaville; daughters Deborah (Quentin) Bischoff of Tampa, Fl., Cynthia (Mark) Godfrey of Oroville, CA.; granddaughters Allison Bischoff, St. Louis, MO. and Mariah Willis of Chico, CA. His godchildren, Kristopher Crawford, Granite Bay, Kimberley Boso Perry, Poway, CA., and Richard Boso, Vacaville. He is also survived by his brother Keithe (Ardell) Thorson, Glasgow, MT., and sister Darlene (Kenneth) Portra of Frazer, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Elaine Thorson. The sincerity of the health care provided to Richard at Kaiser Vacaville, Vallejo, and Oakland is greatly appreciated. A special thank you is extended to Patricia Tan, M.D., Kaiser Vacaville. Memorial contributions may be made, in Richard's name, to the University of Montana, School of Pharmacy, 32 Campus Drive, Missoula, MT. 59812 or to Kaiser Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, CA 94589. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 7 at McCune Garden Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main Street, Vacaville. Pastor Rex Herndon, of the Assembly of God Church, Norwalk, CA will officiate. Interment will be at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
