Obituary for Ralph Milton Bareford
Dec. 11 marked the passing of "Radar" Ralph M. Bareford, March 28, 1926 to Dec. 11, 2015.
He is survived by three daughters; one son; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He and his late wife, Marge moved to Dixon in the 60's when he was hired on as an officer of the Dixon Police Department. As a policeman, Ralph loved to be on the "street" and at one time he became the traffic officer using the then-new technology of the handheld radar gun. When someone (probably local kids who had been ticketed) added his name under the local "SPEED CHECKED BY RADAR" signs, he earned his enduring nickname, "Radar Ralph".
His colorful past included serving aboard a Merchant Marine Liberty ship in the second world war, becoming a deputy of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, and serving as a resident Sheriff in Pollack Pines, Calif.
After the death of his beloved wife, Ralph moved to Washington state to be near his son and oldest daughter.
Ralph loved Jesus, his wife and family, and his country in just that order...and it was best not to criticize any of them in front of him. May his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren follow his life example.
A brief memorial service will be held for Ralph at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on Dec. 31, at 1:30 pm, where he will be interred with military honors -
