Obituary for Peter Allen Mattson
Pete Mattson, age 68, was taken from us much too soon on Wednesday, June 3rd at Morse Kaiser in Sacramento. Pete was born on Mar. 7, 1947 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to the late Frank and Arleen (Roszek) Mattson. His family originally moved to Vacaville in 1963. Pete started working for the City of Vacaville in Public Works right from high school . He retired 10 years ago from the City where he had worked as a Construction Inspector for 39 years. He was called back as a consultant many times just to share his knowledge. Pete enjoyed his retirement and always had many projects in the works. He enjoyed his motorcycles, camping, fishing, going to garage sales, and was legendary for the miniature bird houses he made every Christmas. He gave these to 100 people each year for the past 17 years. He was infamous for being able to fix anything and everything. Most of all Pete loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Tammy; his daughter Kristy and son-in-law Jim Hendrix; daughter Jennifer; sister Patti Martin (Jerry) of Redding; sister Jeanne Sterken (Ed) of Susanville, brother John (Denise) of Vacaville, brother Mike of Redding; and brother Mark (Debra) of Oakland. Pete was blessed with two grandchildren from Kristy; Dylan and Jordyn Hendrix. Pete was very devoted to his family and very involved with the grandkids. He quickly became everyone’s “Papa” by volunteering in pre-school classes and going to camp with Dylan’s class. Pete had a long history in Vacaville. He ran the Bobby Sox League for years when our girls were growing up and he was a crew chief on the Andrews Park makeover. A private interment was held on June 16th at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. We will have a Celebration of Life for Pete on June 30th from 5-9 p.m. at the Vacaville Opera House at 560 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, we are requesting donations to JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We appreciate all the outpouring of love and support to our family during this tragic time. Pete was loved by a great many friends and we will all miss him terribly.
