Obituary for Pearl Elizabeth Shans
Pearl Elizabeth Shans, 92, passed away on Sept. 30, 2013. Born in Green Valley Township, WI on Dec. 24, 1920, she was the oldest daughter of James & Minnie DeVriend. She grew up in Sheboygan, WI. Taking a sewing class at age 15, led to her lifetime career as a seamstress. During WWII, she worked as a welder on submarines. In 1943, she married Seborn B. Shans, who died in 1983. They were two of the originators of the Vacaville Farmers Market. She achieved her childhood dream of traveling the world when her husband joined the Air Force - living in the Philippines, Germany, Spain and visiting many other places. Together they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1972 and were active members of the Fairfield 2nd Ward and Vacaville 2nd Ward. She is the loving mother of Linda (Fred) Maseda of Vacaville and Carol (Duffy) Gehrts of Oregon City, OR, grandmother of 9 and great-grandmother of 24. She has two remaining siblings, William (Jane) DeVriend & Joanne Rosenthal of Sheboygan, WI. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, John, Ed and Martin DeVriend, & two sisters, Sophie Wentz & Corrine Katt all from Wisconsin. “Life’s Short…Eat Cookies”

Service: Funeral services will be held at the LDS Stake Center, 480 Wrentham Dr., Vacaville on Oct. 4 at 1 pm.
