Obituary for Paul Francis Webb Sr.
Paul Francis Webb Sr. had a sudden end to a remarkable life. He passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2018 after a short illness. He was 89 years old. At the time of his passing he was at his home in Dixon surrounded by his three children, Wendy Ruben, Tina Flores, Paul Webb Jr. and his longtime companion and girlfriend, Barbara De Carlo.
Paul was born on September 25, 1929 in Lancaster, Ohio. He was the youngest of 5 children. Paul’s family moved to Dixon in 1930 during the depression so that Paul’s father could find work. They lived with Paul’s grandparents in a home at the end of D Street. The home was on several acres which was a chicken and pigeon ranch which Paul eventually bought in 1964 from his father. Paul attended Dixon schools and excelled in sports. In high school Paul lettered 14 times in four sports playing, football, basketball, track and baseball. In 1947 Paul was named to the only recognized football league named, the Third Team Backfield of all Nor-Cal Prep Team. It was an honor determined by the San Francisco Examiner after asking coaches and sports writers throughout the area. Paul was the only person honored from a small school. Paul graduated from Dixon High School in 1949.
Paul was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951. He served in Japan and Korea. He was a combat medic while deployed to the Korean War. Paul achieved the rank of corporal and received an honorable discharge in 1953 after contracting tuberculosis. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a bronze service star.
After the Army, Paul attended San Jose State University. Again, he was a prep athlete. He held the record for the highest jump in pole vaulting and several other events as well as earning over 21 medals.
In 1964 Paul married Meme Millang. They had three children and raised them on the ranch in Dixon. Paul and Meme eventually divorced but remained friends and would often spend the holidays together.
Paul retired as an agriculture technician at U.C. Davis in 1986. Paul was an avid hunter, hunting deer, duck and pheasant and was known around town for his pickup truck and having one or two hunting dogs in the back. Paul loved vacationing at Lake Tahoe and Hawaii. He enjoyed swimming, tanning and a cold Bud Light beer in a can.
Paul was a fun and loving father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend. He is preceded in death by his mother, Anna May Webb; father, David Ray Webb; and his four siblings, Evelyn Dutra, Ruthie Ferguson, Robert Webb and Spido Webb.
Paul was laid to rest on December 5, 2018. He survived by his three children; as well as son in laws, Robert Flores and Warren Ruben; granddaughter, Sage Ruben; step grandchildren Kyle Ruben, Courtney Ruben; step great-granddaughter, Loryle Ruben; ex-wife Meme Millang; and inherited daughter, Stephanie Vaughan Brown. Memories of Paul as well as his legacy will live on in Dixon and in our hearts forever.
