Obituary for Nathan 'Spike' Schrader
Nathan "Spike" Schrader passed away on Dec. 19, and it was with great sadness that we watched our beloved dad lose his courageous battle with cancer and dance his way into heaven. Nathan William Schrader was born in Farmington, Mont. He was employed by the Montana Power Company in Great Falls, Mont. for 46 years. After retiring he and his wife Gladys moved to Vacaville, Calif. in 1982. They enjoyed camping and spending time with their children and grandchildren in California. After his wife passed away in 1994, he became interested in woodworking and attending senior dances several times a week. He liked to be called "Spike". He got great pleasure from giving away his oven pulls to people he saw frequently and to unsuspecting strangers as a random act of kindness. He was a kind and caring person who cared deeply for his family. He was an inspiration to all of us as he battled his cancer. He touched many lives with his kindness and surprise gifts of his oven pulls, or his bag of chocolate treats. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994, and his son William Jon in 1993. He is survived by his half-sister Patty Riegel of Spokane, Wash.; daughter Natalie Williams of Rio Vista, Calif.; daughter Robin (Clyde) Carpino of Fairfield, Calif.; grandsons Cody Carpino of Auburn, Calif., Todd (Sarah) Carpino of Simi Valley, Calif. and Colby (Sheri) Schrader of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughter Kelly (Josh) Kreutzen of Fullerton, Calif. and great granddaughter Tegan Carpino of Simi Valley, Calif. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. A viewing will be on Sunday, Dec. 26, from 2 - 5 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main Street, Vacaville, Calif. followed by a funeral service on Monday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel.
