Nancy Anne Daugavietis (nee Doerrer), 83, died peacefully at her home in Vacaville, on March 8, 2025, with her husband George at her side. Nancy will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother to daughter Erika and son Matt, a caring friend and generous volunteer. Born in Connecticut on May 22, 1941, Nancy grew up in Madison, CT, a small town on Long Island Sound. She and her younger brother Curt were the children of Frank and Ida Doerrer. She grew up on the New England beaches which gave her a life-long love of the ocean. She often said it wasn’t a vacation unless there was a beach to sit on. After earning her RN degree from Hartford Hospital in Hartford CT, she worked as an operating room nurse then joined the US Air Force in 1970, because she wanted to see the world, especially Alaska. But first she was stationed at Westover AFB in MA and then shortly thereafter at Travis AFB in CA. Then Nancy arrived at Moody AFB in Valdosta, GA, where she met George, an Air Force officer, and where they were married on June 21, 1975. Both remained in the Air Force for twenty years with moves within the U.S. to Ohio and Washington, then to Germany, and finally back to California where they retired in the early 1990s, with Nancy achieving the rank of Major. While focusing on being a mother to Erika and Matthew, Nancy was also an accomplished swimmer, snow skier, and golfer. After retirement, she earned a master’s degree in Holistic Health Education and pursued selling healthy living products. One of the organizations she belonged to and enjoyed the most is Beta Sigma Phi, an international, non-collegiate sorority where she made many lasting friendships. Nancy loved volunteering; being involved with Vacaville High School’s Grad Night for Erika in 1997 and Matt in 1998, helping George with Meals on Wheels, raising donations for cancer research with Relay for Life, working annually with the Vacaville Christmas Wish program, volunteering in the children’s program at Bible Study Fellowship for nearly 10 years, making endless baby hats and flower pens to give away, organizing monthly church lunches, and lastly being the mastermind behind making a yearly supply of pepper jelly to sell as a fundraiser with her Beta Sigma Phi sisters. Nancy never lost her youthful honesty. If she had something to say she said it. Survived by her husband George; daughter Erika (Cameron) Wood; son Matthew (Jennifer) Daugavietis; she is also survived by her brother Curt (Sue) Doerrer; 7 grandchildren who affectionately called her Nana; nephews and nieces, and many friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Beta Sigma Phi, Christmas Wish, or an organization of your choice in Nancy’s honor. A memorial service will be held on April 11, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA. A Celebration of Life will be held on the same day, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Three Oaks Community Center, 1100 Alamo Drive in Vacaville.
