Obituary for Nadine Jacobsen
Nadine Jacobsen, PhD passed away November 21 2009 at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento after a courageous short battle with cancer. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on December 13, 1941 and resided in Dixon, CA for the past 25 years. Doctor Jacobsen graduated from high school at Port Wing, WI and went on to attend Northland College at Ashland, WI prior to receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Drake University in Illinois. After receiving her BA degree she was accepted in a graduate program at Oregon State University where she earned her Masters Degree in Biological Sciences. She accepted a teaching position at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon. In 1967 she married Fred Jacobsen. They resided in North Bend, OR where Fred taught Biology at Southwestern Oregon Community College. In 1968 they moved to Ithaca, NY to attend Cornell University where they both received their doctorate degrees in the Biological Sciences. From there Nadine went on to the University of California at Davis, where she was a professor in the Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology specializing in research on large mammal and maintained a deer research facility on the UC Davis campus. Nadine was committed to helping students achieve their academic and professional goals through her teaching, advising and research.
After 23 years Nadine retired from UC Davis to pursue her other passions including raising and training Airedale Terriers. Nadine also developed her interests in gardening, designing and extensive flower and vegetable garden. She loved nature and was dedicated to protecting wildlife through the preservation and conservation of habitat. Another of Nadines passions was the pursuit of knowledge about healing through the manipulation of the bodies energy fields and using this information to support healing in both people and animals.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Fred Jacobsen of Dixon; a sister, Mrs. Mrs. Ernest (Sonia) Austin of Casa Grande, AZ; three nephews, Kevin, Rick and Steven Wood; brother-in-law, Don Jacobsen and wife Judy of Jefferson, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, Werner and Melba Klecha.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
