Obituary for Murry Johnson
1st Inning: Murry was born to Robert T. (R.T.) and Alma Jones-Johnson in Hazlehurst, Mississippi; he was the second of eight children.
2nd Inning: Murry worked with his father and brothers in his fathers logging business until he went to Utica Junior College on a football scholarship. Utica College is where he met the love of his life, Mary Liddell. After one year of college he went into the U.S. Army.
3rd Inning: Murry was stationed in Marina, California at Fort Ord. After one year of service, Murry married Mary Liddell-Johnson in 1960.
4th Inning: Murry and Mary had five children. They moved to San Francisco in the early sixties and lived there for 13 years. Having been raised Christians, Murry and Mary joined New Strangers Home Baptist Church, which had been founded by one of Murrys ministering uncles, Pastor U.E. Jones (which he ministered for 50 years). Murry was a member of this church until he moved to Vacaville in 1998. They moved to Daly City in the seventies and lived there for 26 years. In 1998, Murry and Mary moved to Vacaville, California.
5th Inning: Murry had a great sense of humor and often loved to crack jokes. He loved to tell stories about when he was a boy growing up in Mississippi. He came from a meager background, but you would never know it by the joy he found in his life.
6th Inning: Murry loved sports, but baseball was his favorite. Murry played football in College and was very good. He loved to work on cars when he was younger. In his past time he enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards and eating. His most favorite past time was spending time with family. He loved his family and loved visiting his family in Mississippi and always looked forward to spending the holidays with family and friends.
7th Inning: A little known fact about Murry, he knew the location of every Dairy Queen from California to Mississippi.
8th Inning: Murry leaves to celebrate his life and honor his memory and love for family: his devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Liddell-Johnson; five children: Brenda Fouchia (Ronald) of So. San Francisco, CA; Murrall Johnson (Angie) of Brentwood, CA; Lesia Johnson of Pittsburg, CA; Marvin Johnson (Sol) of St. Helen, OR and Suzette Crayton (Tony) of Pittsburg, CA; two brothers: Robert (Mae) of Jackson, MS; and Linnard of San Francisco, CA; three sisters: Cora Cortee Lee of Mansfield, TX; Alma Marie Killinsworth of Chicago, IL and Joan Barden (Herbert) of Athens, GA; two sisters-in-law; Barbara Wise-Johnson and Lucille Wade; 10 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Murry now rests with his parents, his sister Mollie and brother Eddie.
9th Inning: Grand Slam; Murry goes home with his Father.
