Monte Lewis Zachary
April 6, 1943-April 28, 2023
On April 28, 2023, Monte L. Zachary, our beloved brother, daddy, Papa, Grandpapa, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully, at the age of 80.
Monte was born in Vallejo, CA, and raised in Vacaville, the only son and oldest of four children. Monte attended Vacaville schools and served in the US Navy and Merchant Marines. In 1964, he married Saretta Keeling and though it was a short marriage, a daughter, Jami was born. Monte shared his fathers love for construction and worked with him off and on over the years. In 1978, in Altus, OK, he met Muriel Mclaughlan and 9-year-old daughter, Heather. They later married and in October of 1979, a daughter was born, who Heather named Stacey. Soon after, the family moved to CA. In the early 80’s, the family made Anchorage, Alaska their home. Monte continued to work construction for many years before moving to Nevada in 1989, where he worked security at the Hacienda Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and then as a correctional officer with Nevada Department of Prisons, in Jean, Ely, Carson City and finally Tonopah, NV. Muriel even joined him in the profession in Ely and Tonopah. In 2000, the couple returned to CA and later divorced. Monte returned to construction and then a delivery driver for vehicle auctions around southern California. In 2003, he met Carolyn Stagner, spending the following years making memories with her.
Monte enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, hunting, fishing, classic cars and a good joke. A jack of all trades but a master of none. Monte was the best big bro, a dedicated daddy, a devoted partner and the proudest Papa. Monte had a long, well-lived life, now resting in perfect peace and protecting us from above.
Monte was preceded in death by his parents Lewis Zachary and Sammie Zachary-Davis. He is survived by his daughter Stacey (Mike) of ID, stepdaughter Heather (Greg) and her family, of MO and Jami (Randy) and her family, of OK. Two grandsons, KJ (Cortney) and Kacey (Senaida), four great grandsons and one great granddaughter. His sisters, Linda Zachary Ackerson of NC, Terri Zachary Coleman of FL and Beverly Zachary Layton (Tony) of OK, and his special friend of 20 yrs, Carolyn Stagner, of Vacaville. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at 2pm and service at 3pm on May 18th, at McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife or your favorite charity.
