Obituary for Minno Smith McKinney
Minno Smith McKinney, known to many as Mac or Smitty, passed away peacefully at his home in Vacaville, CA on February 26th, 2018 from cancer. He was 90 years old and had his wife and children at his side.
Minno was born on April 11, 1927 in Wisconsin to Bertha and Lloyd Paul McKinney. He grew up on the family farm with 2 brothers and 2 sisters and took over management of the farm after the passing of his mother and father when he was 12 and 18 respectively. After a tour in the Navy he set out for warmer climes and landed in Southern California where he met Mary Anne Bugliarello, and the two were married on June 17, 1950. Together they raised two cherished children, Barbara and Paul, built five houses, doted upon three granddaughters, and spent seven decades navigating the ups and downs of life. Minno worked as a gifted stonemason whose professional artistry can be found all throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. His personal contributions to the home improvements of very many friends, neighbors, and family members are treasured reminders of both his skill as a contractor and his generosity of spirit. Mac and Mary Anne spent much of their retirement traveling in their motor home, enjoying the excitement of new places, beautiful scenery, and the good friends they met as part of the Cowtown Campers, and echoing the fun had camping around the country as a family when Barbara and Paul were children. Mac’s good cheer, impish sense of humor, and indomitable spirit in the face of any challenge are a legacy his family will carry with them always.
