Obituary for Milton 'Babe' Rayn
Milton Rayn, or Babe, as everyone knew him, was born June 7, 1925 on the Rayn Ranch south of Dixon, lived there his entire life, and died there May 12, 2011, surrounded by loved ones. He was proud to be the fourth generation living on the ranch.Babe attended Dixon schools and graduated from Dixon High in 1943. He joined the Merchant Marines during World War II, delivering ammo and goods all over the world. After the war ended, he opened a trucking firm in Dixon, hauling market animals throughout Northern California. In 1946, Babe married the love of his life, Dollieta Montgomery, and built their home on the ranch where they raised two children. When his dad became ill and unable to work, Babe shut down the trucking business and took over ranch operations. For many years he raised market cattle, hogs, and sheep, and grew wheat, barley, alfalfa hay, sugar beets and corn. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Babe loved his family and friends and enjoyed cooking gourmet meals for them. His green chicken recipe is still famous. Besides enjoying family and cooking, he loved being outdoors: he hunted fished, golfed, and boated. He also loved target shooting, his animals, 40s music and photography.babe was a founding member of the Dixon Boat Club and served as its Commodore. He was also a member of the Dixon Dance Club, the Dixon Quarterback Club, Dixon Volunteer Firefighters Association, Solano County Firemans Association, Solano County Farm Bureau, Dixon/Solano RCD Water Quality Coalition, Director and President of the Maine Prairie Water District for over 20 years, a life member of the Yolo County Horsemans Association, and he volunteered his cooking skills to many charity events.Babe is survived by his daughter, Donna Asay; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Rayn; grandchildren, Jason (Krista) Asay, Justin Rayn, and Misty (Jake) Miller; great-grandchildren, Thomas Asay, Hailee Miller, and Aubrey Miller, sister, Barbara Beckworth; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eb and Jessie Rayn, his wife, Dolly; his son, Bill; companions, Eileen Carlson and most recently, June Pistor. Babe was physically, spiritually, and mentally strong with a tender, loving heart and will be missed by all who knew him.In lieu of flowers family suggest contributions be made in Babes name to American Cancer Society or donors favorite charity.
