Obituary for Mike M. Shubin
Entered into peaceful rest and now joins his immigrant Russian parents, brother and sisters. While Mike was born in San Francisco, he lived his “full life” in the Elmira/Vacaville area. He was a great source of local history and totally enjoyed sharing it with his many friends and family. Elmira Grammar School was his first and then on to Vacaville High where he was a member of their first Football team to win the Sectional Championship. Mike graduated in 1935 and their win title was held until 1958. He was a member of the FFA. Mike worked for Solano County as a Rural Appraiser for 30+ years. He was a founding and long time member of Vanden School Board. They honored him by naming one of the Vanden High School buildings in his name. He also was active in the Solano School District. He was a voluntary fireman in the Elmira District. Solano County Firemans Assoc. recognized and awarded him a Life Membership Award from the Vacaville Fire Protection District in 2006. Mike had a chicken ranch for several years and it featured the landmark concrete barn. As he was an active member of the Vacaville Oddfellows for 60 years, IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, donations may be made to the local Oddfellows Lodge #83. Mike will be greatly missed by Alice Bogdanoff Shubin, his loving wife of 70 years; their sons, Michael and Tom; and daughter, Dottie. Services are March 9, 11 a.m., Community Presbyterian Church, 425 Hemlock St., Vacaville 95688. Followed by a graveside service at Elmira/Vacaville Cemetery and reception at the Elmira Firehouse.
