Obituary for Michael Joseph Segura
Michael Joseph Segura was born on September 24th, 1955 to Joseph and Joann Segura in Fairfield, California. He graduated from Vacaville High School in 1973, before attending college at Boise State.
At the age of 20, he became Exxon’s youngest employee, working with their fire department, and ultimately he became the one and only honorary member of the Vacaville Firefighters Association.
In 1982, he married the love of his life, Debbie Cutler. Together, they moved to Colorado where Mike worked for Union Oil. Eventually, they moved back to California, although a piece of Mike’s heart always remained in Rifle.
In 1988, Mike and Debbie welcomed their first daughter, Alyssa Ashlee, and in 1993 they completed their family with Lauren Nicole.
Mike went on to become a private contractor after moving back to Vacaville in 1993, allowing him to spend more time at home with his family. His handiwork touched small businesses and private residences alike. There was nothing he couldn’t build.
As a constant pillar of his community, Mike volunteered much of his free time to several different organizations. Most recently, he was a part of the logistics committee for Merriment on Main, the Vice Commodore of the Dixon Boat Club, and a Vacaville Museum volunteer.
Mike loved to travel, enjoying the Italian countryside as much as the Californian coast line and the deep, often choppy waters of Alaska. The beaches of Hawaii eventually became a second home to him, he found as much joy in exploring lava caves as he did in local cuisine.
After a yearlong fight with advanced melanoma, Michael passed away at the age of 63. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, off-roading, and a cold beer on Friday night.
Michael was a lifelong friend to many, a devoted husband of 36 years, a loving son, a great man, and the best dad two girls could ask for. He is survived by his wife Debbie Segura, his daughters, Lauren Segura Vasquez and Alyssa Segura, his brother Manuel Segura, his mother, Joann Segura Romel, and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and members of his family.
Celebration of Life to be held at The Elmira Fire House (6080 A St, Elmira, CA 95625) on Sunday March 3rd at 1 pm.
