Obituary for Merlene Fields Jordan
Merlene Fields Jordan was born September 30, 1934, in Marshall, Texas, to Frederick Douglas Fields and Kathryn Gaines Fields. She was baptized at Ebenezer Methodist Church, Marshall, Texas, on April 25, 1943. The Fields moved from Texas, to California, when Merlene was an early age. As a child Merlene was fondly called “Freddie”. It was not until she entered grade school that she learned her name was Merlene. She was surprised to learn of her given name and requested everyone refer to her by Merlene since that point. After completing her education, Merlene married Chester Jordan Jr. From Chester's and Merlene's union Joey and Paula were born. Merlene loved her father Frederick Douglas Fields. She was a devoted daughter, who honored her mother Kathryn Gaines Fields. Merlene was an affectionate, dependable sister to her brothers George, Carl, and Christopher. She was a cherished, present, gift, to her sister Eloina. Merlene loved her children Joey and Paula. She was a poised, reliable, teaching presence, and companion to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Merlene exemplified her love to everyone. Merlene's zest for life was evident in her spirit. She was beautiful on the outside, as well as beautiful on the inside. Merlene had qualities as rare as the most precious natural gemstone. She was a cheerleader, motivator for others, always available to listen, with a person's best interest at heart. Many would say, she was blessed to have and easily do all that she so talentedly did: sing, dance, entertain, host, bake, write, a seamstress with impeccable style. Merlene retired from the Social Security Administration, after dedicated, efficient Federal Civil Service. Upon retiring, and after years of enjoying favorite pastimes, Merlene discovered Pastor Joel Osteen, of Houston, Texas. She had the privileged of seeing Pastor Joel Osteen when he visited locally. Merlene appreciated, and enjoyed Pastor Joel Osteen's inspirational sermons. She loved to dance and would stay on the dance floor even after her grandkids got tired. Yearly, Merlene looked forward to the Annual Clubs of the Fifties Dance. Her last attendance, at the Clubs of the Fifties Dance, she was as always, radiantly, beautiful. Merlene departed this life on July 3,2015. She was preceded in death by: Frederick Douglas Fields, Kathryn Gaines Fields, George Allen Fields Sr., Carl Wayne Fields, and other relatives. Merlene is survived by children Joey Jordan and Paula Johnson, Siblings; Eloina Henry and Christopher Henry Grandchildren; Tiffany Johnson, Regina Johnson, Dawnielle Glover, Jennifer Glover, and Jolynn Jordan; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many friends Yes, our hearts will ache, she will be vastly truly missed, leaving many family and friends with her traits of passion, and compassion for understanding, and to be understood - love!
