Obituary for Mercedes Munoz
Mercedes Munoz, a longtime Dixon resident, passed away July 16, 2021 at the age of 93. She was born in Juchitlan, Jalisco, Mexico in 1927- the youngest of four children. She immigrated to the United States in 1947, settling in Stockton. In the mid '60s, Mercedes, her husband Salvador Munoz, and their three children moved to Dixon. The couple became well known as the owners of El Charro Cafe in downtown Dixon from 1968 to 1980. Mercedes created her own recipes and the business attracted local residents and visitors from the region and beyond. Mercedes traveled after retiring, visiting Hawaii, New York City, Washington D.C., Florida, and took a cruise to Mexico. She became a United States citizen in July 2000. Survivors include three children, Leticia Gutierrez Vodden (Eric)  of Marysville, Harvey Munoz (Buffy) of Sacramento and Sandra Munoz Davis of Dixon; seven grandchildren, Andrew Vodden, Marisa Vodden Perry, Sarah Munoz Humphrey, Anthony Munoz, Cameron Munoz, Angelina Davis Frye and Jaclyn Davis; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Jose M. Gutierrez and Salvador Munoz; two sisters, Magdalena Cisneros and Carmen Covarrubias; and brother, Jesus Huerta. Visitation will be July 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Milton Carpenter Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on July 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial will be at Silveyville Cemetery.
