Obituary for Mary V. Groulx
Mary was born to Leslie O. Johnson and Helen M. Johnson on June 28, 1926 in Evansville, IN. The family moved to Detroit when her father got a job with the Dodge Brothers. Mary went through Detroit schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1944. After graduation, Mary went to work at the Dodge/Sherman Tank Arsenal with her father, Les and her sister, Bettye. She shipped tanks to the European theater and the Pacific until the war was over. She loved her country deeply and flew her American flag until she could no longer set it out.
In 1947 the family moved to Vacaville to improve her father’s heart condition. In 1949 she married the love of her life, Silas Groulx. They had three children: Paula, Cynthia and Michael. She is survived by her son, Michael; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Maryann Groulx; grandchildren, Michelle Stieber, Eric Bessex, Brandy Byers, Kevin McDaniel, Jennifer Calvin and Thomas Byers; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Les and Helen; her husband, Silas; daughters, Paula and Cynthia; and her sisters, Bettye and Martha. Donations can be made to dementia research.
