Obituary for Martin Charles Laforet
Martin Charles Laforet of Suisun City passed away on July 19, 2013. Martin was the eldest of five children born to Martin and Jewel Laforet of Redwood Valley, Mendocino County, CA. He graduated from Ukiah High School. Martin left home in 1940 to study at UC Berkeley but interrupted his studies to join the Army Air Force in 1942. While stationed in the European theatre, Martin achieved the rank of captain and piloted a B-26 Marauder. Following WWII, Martin earned a B.S degree in Business Administration from UC Berkeley and began his accounting and auditing career. After working in the private sector in San Francisco for over 20 years, he became a supervisor in the Solano County Auditor-Controller’s Office until his retirement in 1984. Martin met Helen, his future wife, while both were working at the same company in San Francisco. Martin married Helen in 1952. She was his devoted wife for more than 60 years until her death in March of this year. Martin was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather with a good sense of humor. His family could always count on him for his help and advice. Martin is survived by his children, Stephen, Anne, Jeanne, and Lisa (Bob); grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa, Matt (Brianna), and Robert; sisters, Edith, Marie, and Florence, and many loving nieces and nephews. Martin was preceded in death by his wife Helen, parents, and sister, Catherine. A service for Martin will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21 at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main Street, Vacaville.
