Obituary for Marjorie C. Johnston
Marjorie Johnston (98) was born in College Point New York on September 15, 1920 to James and Christine Crooks on September 15,1920. She passed peacefully Sunday morning November 11 just before it was time to get ready for Church. She was a World War II veteran served in Washington DC for the Navy in the WAVES. She met her husband Robert while she was in Junior College in Manhattan, New York City and they were married in 1947. She and Robert moved from New York City after he transferred from the Navy to the Air Force. They moved to Springfield, MA then to Guam in the late 1950’s after that to Moses Lake, WA. Finally, they moved to be close to family in Vacaville in 1966 with his transfer to Vietnam. After his return from Vietnam they stayed in Vacaville.
During her travels she made friends everywhere and kept contact with them through regular cards and letters. When visitors and friends from New York would come it always included a visit to the Napa Valley she enjoyed a glass of fine wine. She retired from the Travis Legal office as a Court Reporter in the mid 1980’s. As was her custom, after retirement she volunteered at Vaca Valley Hospital, with the Military widows and other groups
.
She was Baptized and Confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran in College Point NY and was a current member Bethany Lutheran Church. Attendance at worship services was extremely important to her with the help of her family she regularly attended services. She was in services until the Sunday before her passing. When she was healthy she served Bethany as their Treasurer and a Bible study leader.

She is survived by her four children Bob (Vickie), Chris (Gary) Zadnik of Vacaville, Curt (Debbie) of Fairfield, and Doug (Kathy) of Phoenix, AZ. She has 13 grand-children and 26 great-grand-children. She was the last of her generation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Johnston; her siblings and her husband’s siblings.
A memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Monday November 19 at 4:00 with Pastor Dann Ettner officiating. Interment in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery will be private.
