Obituary for Marjorie Ann Abrew Carroll
A Mass will be held Tuesday, April 27, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church for Marjorie Ann Abrew Carroll, a Vacaville native and lifelong resident who died Saturday, April 17, at Kaiser Hospital. She was 75. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, April 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel on Main Street. Beloved by family and a lifetime of Vacaville friends, Marjorie was active in business and in the progress of the community she loved. She was the life partner of her late husband, William. For 18 years she represented her community, and her family, as Vacaville's "first lady." William was Vacaville's mayor for 18 of his 21 years on the City Council before serving a 12-year term on the Solano County Board of Supervisors. The daughter of Joseph and Virginia Abrew, Marjorie was born Feb. 14, 1935, in the Vacaville General Hospital on Elizabeth Street. She attended local schools and graduated from Vaca High in 1953. For 47 years, she and her husband owned and operated Vacaville Music, a venture she loved because it kept her in touch with the community. One of its mainstays was the rental of hundreds of musical instruments to budding musicians. Because of their help and service, the Carrolls introduced countless students to the world of music. Marjorie and William were married in 1954. He preceded her in death. She is survived by their daughter, Rosanne Carroll Avila and her husband, Scott; grandchildren, William Kolby Stancil and Stephanie Marjorie Stancil; and two great-grandchildren, Layla Naloni Morgan and Wesson William Joseph Avila. "Extended grandchildren" include Sam Allara, Melanie Johnson and Sean Johnson. She is survived by a sister, Judy Abrew. She was preceded in death by brothers Manuel, Joseph and Tony; and by sisters, Mary Abrew and Virginia Jakeman. Marjorie was active in the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Improvement District, the Vacaville Rotary Club and St. Mary's Church. For their support, the family extended thanks to Donie Green, Stefanie Green, Theresa Schuetz, Lori Schuetz, Brandon Neal, Stephanie Stancil, Rosanne Avila, Donna Barker, Glen Adkins, Tommy Rosa, Fred Zustak and Joel Salinas. Interment will be in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions to the Vaca Valley Hospital Foundation in her name.
