Obituary for Marion (Buck) Burton
A tragic farm accident claimed the life of Marion (Buck) Burton on Wednesday, Aug. 18. As he was preparing the sprayer to spray the walnut orchard, the tractor accidentally slipped into gear and knocked Buck to the ground.Buck, as he was known, was born Feb. 23, 1925, on the Burton Ranch and lived there his entire life. He was the fifth son born in the large family of twelve. He took over the farming duties after his father's death in 1957.Left to mourn his death is his wife of 40 years, Allean Burton, and his remaining siblings including Clarence Jr., Earl (Beverly), Ernest (Patricia), Gary, Fred (Bonnie), George (Stormy), sister, Margaret Cook, brother-in-law William Powell and cousin Tom Armstrong (Tina). Four other siblings preceded him in death. They were Lawrence (Margaret), Richard, Grace and five year old, Esma Jean.Buck's large extended family includes six nephews and nine nieces plus many other relatives living in the Vacaville area, and Karen Strickland (Graham) of Cirencester, England.As a prominent member of the community, Buck served on the Solano Resource Conservation District Board, twenty one years on the Sunsweet Growers Board, two terms as president of the Solano Farm Bureau, and various other organizations.However, his first love was family and he and Allean opened their large home for many celebrations throughout the years. Christmas Eve family gatherings grew into a legendary family tradition.Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 26, from 5-8 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel at 212 Main Street.The services will take place, Friday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. in the family orchard, on Fruitvale Rd. Since the actual service and reception will take place in the family orchard, please wear comfortable walking shoes and casual attire. Interment will be private.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Saturday Club of Vacaville Foundation Scholarship Fund at 125 Kendall Street, Vacaville. Contributions can be made also to the Solano Community Foundation Fund with credit to the Nelson Endowment Fund which would include the Grace Powell Scholarship Fund. Donations may also be made to the Solano Cancer Society and sent to 1125 Missouri Street, Suite 109, Fairfield, CA 94533.
