Obituary for Marie Cecilia (Ghio) Donovan
Marie Cecelia(Ghio) Donovan, 86 of Vacaville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Feb. 4. She was born in San Francisco on Sept. 16, 1925. Marie was a native San Franciscan and the daughter of Agostina and Pietro Ghio. Marie was from a proud family of boat builders and fishermen who immigrated from Riva Trigoso, Genova, Liguria, Italy. Marie was a church secretary at St. Lawrence the Martyr in Santa Clara, Calif. for 10 years. She was a member for 50 + years of Alanon as well as a member of Ladies Auxiliary of VFW, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and the Red Hat Ladies at Merrill Gardens. She was an accomplished cook whose Italian recipes were passed on to family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved Italian Tenors. She also enjoyed her last years at Merrill Gardens in Vacaville, where she made many friends. Marie was the wife of the late Robert Donovan Sr. Loving mother of Virginia (Ralph) Bucher, Robert (Kristin) Donovan Jr. and Victor (Wendy) Donovan. Beloved grandmother of Brian Bucher (Juana), Brad Bucher (Analyn), Katelyn, Rob, Halle and Zach Donovan. Adored great-grandmother of Matthew, Sophia and Grecia Bucher. Loving sister of the late Frances Feehrer, Louise Wight and Anthony Ghio. Loving aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass with Father Jose Betran officiating will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1791 Marshall Road. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Diabetes Association, Heart Association or donors favorite charity.
