Obituary for Mariam Eileen Pantiskas
Mariam Eileen Pantiskas, 88, of Vacaville, California passed away in her sleep on September 22, 2016 from complications of pneumonia.
Mariam was born to Carl and Alice (Rundahl) Forsbeck of Sharon Springs, Kansas on November 26, 1927. She grew up proud of her Swedish ancestry on the family farm in the heart of the dust bowl. She wore her pride of her family farm and her lineage as a badge of honor for her entire life. She attended Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs and after graduating in 1945, she moved to Denver, Colorado. Mariam worked for a number of years for the American Can Company, until she married Frank Pantiskas on December 5, 1954. Over the years the family was posted at duty stations in Brize Norton AFB, England, George AFB, Victorville, CA, Seymour Johnson AFB, Goldsboro, NC, and Travis AFB, Fairfield. She worked many years for the Civilian Personnel Department at Travis AFB as a Staffing Specialist until her retirement in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Pantiskas; brother, Orville Forsbeck, and son, Carl Pantiskas. She is survived by, her sister, Maxine Branwell; daughter, Connie Nelson (Jim Nelson); son, Gary Pantiskas (Julie Pantiskas) daughter-in-law, Kari Pantiskas. Grandchildren: Ricky Binet, Heidi Hastert, Debbie Brownfield, Chad Nelson, Andy Pantiskas, Matt Pantiskas, Lauren Pantiskas and Megan Pantiskas. Great Grandchildren: Olivia Brownfield, Lindsey Brownfield, Ally Nelson, Zack Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Jack Hastert, Ava Hastert, Benjamin Hastert, William Hastert and Henry Binet. Mariam is also survived by her friends and caregivers Phillip Wortham and Mary Wortham.
Mariam loved it best when her grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. She loved to read and check her email to see if there are any new pictures, videos or face time calls from her family. She loved to sew and garden before she became ill.
She was a proud member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Vacaville, CA. A Visitation will be Monday, September 26, at McCune Garden Chapel, 5:00-7:00PM. Funeral service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Tuesday, September 27, at 10AM.
