Obituary for Margaret 'Peggy' Naomi McDonnell
Born June 5, 1925 in Westwood, CA, Margaret Naomi McDonnell was reunited with her beloved husband, "Mac", on December 14, 2009 in Dixon, CA surrounded by her loving family. Peggy, as she was called, was the 8th of 10 children born to David and Edna Proffitt. She grew up in Susanville, CA where she attended Lassen High School. She was a cheerleader and clarinet player in the high school band. She also attended cosmetology school in San Francisco during the Second World War. While in San Francisco, she met the love of her life, William Mac McDonnell. They married June 22,1946. Together they raised 5 children. They lived in various places throughout the country before finally settling down in Dixon in 1996. Peggy converted to her husbands faith, Catholicism, in the 1970s. She became an active member in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was president of the RCIA in Fremont, CA. She was also active in the Dixon Senior Citizens Center where she enjoyed line dancing and aggravating her fellow seniors. She enjoyed her many friends in the community and was always the first to offer and give a hug. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of having her in their lives.She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Brown, her husband Darrell of New Plymouth, ID, son John McDonnell, his wife Lori of Salt Lake City, UT, William McDonnell, his wife Brenda of Dixon, CA, sons Kevin McDonnell of Dixon and Mark McDonnell of Reno, NV. Also surviving are sister Glenda Diggle, her husband Robert of Lincoln, sisters-in-law Virginia Proffitt and Dee McDonnell. Peggy also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Kara Bidwell, Erin Mellinger, Patrick Brown, Andrew and Joseph McDonnell, Melinda Stocking and Eric Heugly, and 10 great-grandchildren, Kade and Zane Bidwell, Piper Mellinger, Cody, Casey and Randy Jr. Stocking and Cadeen, Logan, Mason and Corbin Heugly. Besides immediate family, Peggy also has numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and, of course, friends.A Rosary will be held December 21, 2009 at 5:00 pm at St. Peters Catholic Church, 105 South 2nd St., in Dixon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held December 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., also at St. Peters. Burial will be at Silveyville Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Vallejo Kaiser Hospice at 975 Serrano Drive, Vallejo , CA, 94589.
