Obituary for Margaret C. Lum
Margaret Chan Lum Born on September 20, 1929, in Sacramento, CA, passed away on March 5, 2013 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ton G. Lum. She is survived by sons Paul (Shawn) Lum of Vacaville, CA and Thomas (Connie) Lum of Annandale, VA, and grandchildren Neil, Russell, Lauren, and Evan. She is also survived by three brothers, Paul Dong, Bill Dong, and Ben Dong, and a sister, Marian Frisby, of Sacramento. Her brother, Sim Dong, and sister, Clara Chinn, preceded her in death. Born in a humble neighborhood close to the California state capitol, she attended Sacramento schools and Sacramento City College before transferring to Stanford Nursing School in San Francisco. After graduating, she was accepted into a masters program at UCLA, but chose not to attend. She traveled to Europe, married, worked as a school nurse, earned a masters degree from Sacramento State University, supported her husband's farming business, and raised her children in Dixon, CA. In 1979, she graduated from McGeorge School of Law. She was a practicing family attorney for nearly three decades. She had varied cultural interests, maintained many friendships among her community, church, and profession, and was a source of encouragement to many members of her extended family. A funeral service will be held on March 15 at 10am at Dixon Community Church, 955 East A Street, Dixon, CA. Burial will follow at Silveyville Cemetery.
