Lyman Major Fisher passed away peacefully in his home in Vacaville, CA, on June 4, 2024.
Lyman was born on September 7, 1942, in Ogden, UT, to Bruce Leo Fisher and Lydia Lovina Fisher. He was the youngest of three brothers and one sister. He grew up in Kuna, Idaho, where he graduated from high school and joined the Idaho National Guard. He went on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Central States Mission. Elder Fisher was primarily assigned to do missionary work in areas located in the state of Oklahoma. After returning from his mission, he attended Utah State University. He earned his A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) license, which equipped him with the ability and qualifications to become an airplane mechanic.
Lyman’s love for airplanes inspired him to earn his private pilot’s license. He also enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Utah National Guard and the United States Air Force Reserve, in service spanning 23 years. He worked as a flight engineer on the C-97, KC-97, C124, and C5-A airplanes. He was fortunate to become acquainted with many different people and cultures while flying all over the world. He bravely served the United States of America as a flight engineer during the Vietnam War. Following his service in the United States Air Force, he worked for Pacific Southwest Airlines as an airline mechanic, then as a lead mechanic for US Airways in San Francisco, CA. Lyman worked at San Francisco International Airport for over 20 years.
Lyman and his lovely wife, Anita Rowley, were married on August 21, 1967, in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage, and they were the proud parents of their six children. They have 28 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Lyman is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Lydia, and his siblings, Peggy, Bernard, Richard, and Robert. He is survived by his wife Anita, children, and their spouses: Mark and Kristina Fisher, Christine and Blair Compton, Todd and June Fisher, Tracy and Holly Fisher, Kevin and Amy Fisher, and Aaron and Kerry Fisher, along with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 311 Alamo Drive, Vacaville, CA. The viewing will be held on June 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on June 13th from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.
