Obituary for Luis Zallo
Luis Zallo passed away in his home on June 30, 2015 in Dixon, CA after a long illness. He was 74.
Mr. Zallo was born on November 1, 1940 in Amorebieta-Echano in the Basque Country in Spain to his parents Pedro Zallo and Segunda Suarez. He was the youngest of twelve children.
In 1968, Mr. Zallo left the Basque Country to work in California as a sheepherder. He worked in various jobs, prior to moving to Dixon, where he settled and made it his home. In 1974, he returned to Spain to marry his wife, Garbine Zallo, and at the end of the year, they welcomed their daughter, Izaskun Zallo. They farmed and ranched sheep in the Dixon area for over 35 years.
He will always be remembered as a loving father & husband and whose greatest passion was raising sheep and spending time with family and friends. Luis loved meeting and talking with people on a daily basis. He always had a story to share, a joke to laugh about and a smile on his face.
Mr. Zallo is survived by his wife, Garbine of 41 years; daughter, Izaskun; three siblings; nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many friends in the United States and Spain.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 7p.m. at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon. A mass will be held on Friday, July 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Dixon.
