Obituary for Lt. Col. Richard Fitzpatrick (Ret.)
Richard “Dick” Fitzpatrick, 83, of Dixon passed away in the arms of loved ones on Saturday, July 27th. Born April 18, 1930 in Walton Mass, he is survived by his cherished wife, Marylee, and son’s Tim and Dan. Dick served as a Fighter-bomber pilot in the United States Air Force where he was presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal and the Air Medal, the highest honors in aviation, for heroism in aerial combat and outstanding achievement while participating in aerial flight. Dick served his country for 22 years, facing eminent enemy fire in the Vietnam War, before retiring in 1974. He then joined First Northern Bank where he served as Branch Manager for the duration of his career. An adoring family man, Dick valued his wife, children, and grandchildren above all else. He was an icon of fatherly love that exemplified traditional family values. He and Marylee traveled back and forth between Dixon and their home in Waterford, Maine on picturesque Keoka Lake. He was a faithful Boston Red Sox fan and avid outdoorsman that enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, and sailing. In lieu of flowers the Fitzpatrick family requests that donations be made to the St. Peter’s Parish Youth Group or St. Jude Hospital.
