Obituary for Lowell 'Bud' Ray Simmons, Sr.
Lowell “Bud” Ray Simmons, Sr., age 73, of Vacaville, Calif. entered into rest on Thursday, July 11, 2013 following a long illness. Bud was born in Brookland, Ark. on September 27, 1939 to Millard A. Simmons and Nora Bohling Simmons. He moved with his family to Richmond, Calif. as a young boy and worked to help support his mother, a single mom. Bud graduated from Alhambra Senior High School in Martinez, Calif. in 1957 where he was a member of the track team. He married Mary Alice Edwards on June 25, 1960 in Richmond, Calif. He joined the U.S. Army in September 1961 and was stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. In later years he worked as a teacher at Bethel Christian Academy. He spent another 23 years working in the teamsters union in Sacramento and Richmond. In 2005, he and his wife traveled across the U.S. to visit family and friends, a trip he had talked about for years. Bud was a hard worker and dedicated to providing for his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. We rest in the hope that he is now in the presence of Christ. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty and Katherine. Bud is survived by his wife, Alice Simmons; sons, Lowell Simmons, Jr. (Monica) of Vallejo, Philip Simmons (Katie) of Petaluma; daughters, Shari Schoenecker of San Jose, Rebecca (Phillip) Foley and Lora Simmons both of Vallejo; 16 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sibling William Simmons of Redding, Calif. and many beloved nieces and nephews.
