Obituary for Lorraine Patricia "Trish" Currie
Our beautiful Loraine Patricia “Trish” Currie was called home on Monday, December 20, 2021 and made her transition peacefully, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Trish was born on January 13, 1971 in San Leandro, CA to the proud parents of James and Jonnie Currie. She lived in Oakland, CA for many years where she received her high school diploma from Dewey High School and raised two beautiful daughters, Shanna and Breanna. Trish was a chartered member of Victory Baptist Church of Vacaville, CA, pastored by her cousin Rev. Dr. Marty Peters.
After completing her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, Trish started her life's work caring for others, first at a convalescent home in Oakland and continued this work at several hospitals across the Bay Area.
Trish moved to Vacaville in 2003 to be closer to family. While in Vacaville, she worked at the California Medical Facility, a state prison, and later became a Patient Care Technician at Kaiser Hospital, where she spent more than ten years.
Trish helped run Workplace Safety Committees and implemented ideas that Kaiser Vacaville still has in place today. She helped the hospital advocate for better equipment, like inflatable air mattresses, to transfer patients from surface to surface. Trish was a strong voice for the SEIU UHW Union and participated in countless meetings about healthcare workers rights. Trish took great pride in caring for others and bringing joy to her patients and co-workers. Kaiser Vacaville was truly her work home—she showered her co-workers with love and smiles, made people feel seen, and cared for patients as if they were family.
Trish was also an educator, first at Western Career College, and later at Solano Community College, where she lectured nursing students about safe patient handling techniques. She also gave speeches on her experience being a breast cancer survivor.
While her love and care was felt by many, Trish was most proud of being a mother to, “the best two daughters a mother could dream of.”
Trish cherished being around people, especially friends and family. She loved animals, camping, skiing, traveling, singing, and dancing—she could bust a move no matter the place. Trish had an amazing sense of humor and loved to play pranks on people, even the kids.
Trish never met a stranger, and had an infinite capacity to love—once she knew you, she loved you. She lit up a room with her vibrant energy.
She is survived by her daughters Shanna (Sasha) Holmes, Breanna (Mike) Stagg, Goddaughter Phillicia Leal, father James Currie, brothers Billy Hurst and Jody, sister in love Nicol Hurst, sister from another mister Elizabeth (Big Phil) Armas, sister-cousin Bonnie Whitlock, granddaughter Parker, aunts Wilma Thorpe, Clara Hafler, Patricia Stackhouse, Bonnie (Cliff) Nichols, uncle Adolpho “Junior” Calderon, and she also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Jonnie Currie, brothers Jerry Bishop and Brian Barber and her nephew Angelo Hurst.
