Obituary for Lois Jean Clapper

Lois Jean Coffin, 90, of Vacaville, was born on March 17, 1933, to Julia Ellen Fuller Coffin and Alfred Ernest Coffin in Stafford, Kansas. In 1948, her family moved to Alameda, where she attended Alameda High School. She played first violin in the orchestra, was vice president of the senior class, was an ROTC sponsor, and performed in the senior play.

In 1953, she married Everett Russell Clapper in the Methodist Church in Alameda, and then moved to Del Rio, Texas. Later that year, they welcomed their first child, Steven. In 1955, they moved to England and welcomed their second son, Lawrence, in 1957. They moved to Fairfield in 1960 and adopted their daughter, Julia, in 1963 when she was 5 days old. In 1967 the family moved to Puerto Rico for 3 years where they enjoyed the beaches, great weather, and good friends.

In 1970, they moved to Beale AFB where Lois worked at the BX service station as a clerk, which began her career with AAFES. In 1973, they bought a home in Vacaville and have lived in Vacaville ever since. Lois continued working for the BX, eventually becoming the service manager for the base theater, concessions, and vending. Lois retired in 1992 after 22 years of service.

As a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Lois was active in the Senior Group, sang in the choir, and played her violin until health problems prevented her from doing so. Lois enjoyed cooking for family dinners and holidays; family was her number 1 priority. She also enjoyed traveling and site seeing with Everett.

On June 2, 2023, at the age of 90, Lois passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. She is affectionately remembered by her husband, 3 children, 2 daughters-in-law, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on June 9, 2023 at the McCune Garden Chapel. In remembrance of Lois, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Trinity Baptist Church in Vacaville.
